Package ignites at Washington Post Office

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – An envelope or package ignited at a postal facility in Washington on Friday but no-one was injured, police said, a day after two similar incidents in mailrooms in nearby Maryland.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was responding to a report of an incident at a postal facility in the northeast of the capital.
"There was an ignition of some envelope or package," police spokesman Hugh Carew said. "They evacuated the building, and we're investigating at this time."
CBS affiliate WUSA, citing Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) officials, said that a mail sorter was tossing mail into a bin, when the package ignited on its own. They said no one was hurt.
Two smoldering packages erupted in smoke and flames in the mailrooms of two Maryland state government buildings on Thursday but no one was seriously injured.
One incident took place in the mailroom of the Maryland Department of Transport facility in Hanover and the other in a mail-handling facility in a state building in Annapolis next to the Maryland State House, police said.
